From immemorial times, the Church determined that sacred vessels and, by extension, all other liturgical items should be decorated pieces made of, or covered with, noble metals. As a result, religious goldsmithing reached an outstanding artistic development, especially during the Modern Age.
The Royal Parish Church of Saint Mary Magdalene is home to one of the most outstanding collections of liturgical goldsmith's work in the city, as it brings together pieces belonging to the former convent of Saint Paul and to the parish itself, as well as other pieces donated or owned by the brotherhoods that are located there.
